It’s rare to see that much support for anything, let alone a piece of legislation that would lead to a Constitutional amendment. But it’s not really that surprising when you consider the stories of people like Teri Jendusa-Nicolai, who just shared her story of survival in this op-ed in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
As Teri told us when the poll came out, “The overwhelming majority of Wisconsinites support updating our state Constitution to ensure equal rights for crime victims because they know it’s the right thing to do.” After fighting for her life after a brutal attack – and then for justice – she would know.
The poll also showed 81 percent of Wisconsinites supporting a victim’s right to be able to speak up at more points in the criminal justice process, and that 68 percent are more likely to support a lawmaker who backs our proposal.
